On today’s ride I was joined by:
From Calgary I was on my own for a while. This is where the true test of endurance and determination happened. And I am glad to say that I came out of the other side of the test safely and successfully.
- Ernie MacDonald rejoined me today.
Stops along the Way
I woke up in the comfort of a hotel bed. Don’t get me wrong, I love sleeping in a tent snuggled up in my sleeping bag, but once in a while the creature comforts provided by a hotel room are much appreciated. And one of those comforts is the breakfast that comes with the room.
After breakfast, I dialled into the ZOOM meeting with the Rotary Club of Lake Country. I got a few minutes to update the club about the ride so far.
Stop 1
HALO Air Ambulance
A friend of mine, Graham Mackenzie, is the chief pilot for HALO Air Ambulance. They sponsored me for the night and wanted a photo session with their charity coordinator, Jolene McIvor. Jolene was going to take a few photos and get some information about the ride and its objectives for her social media pages.

The session went well, then it was time to go find Ernie and get on the road. Getting out of Medicine Hat was another time that I almost threw my bike computer away. It took us through a hilly park, a very hilly park with some hills up to 18% grades – up and down. Finally found our way to the Trans Canada Highway and stuck to it.
From here to Winnipeg we will be staying pretty close to the Trans Canada, so this report will start getting repetitive, but as long as the wind is at my back, that’s just fine. But, from time to time there will be interesting things on the side of the road.

The road finally led us to our destination for the night, Eagle Valley Park Campground. A nice spot right on the highway, but a bit of a distance to town, so we ended up calling for a pizza. Delivered to the campsite.
