Today is Day #4 of The Road To Valour — I’m playing catchup.

| The Stats | Today | Total (so far) |

On today’s ride I was joined by:

- Ernie MacDonald
Along the Way
Enn left us last night in Hope, so that left the group as a simple threesome.
This is a short ride day, but not an easy one. It is our first day of hard hill climbing and our legs needed to adjust. Luckily, the sun kept shining and the wind remained at our back. That made the climb that much easier.
Stop 1
Japanese-Canadian Interment Camp
Legs were burning. We stopped at a spot that was perfectly located at the side of the road. There were a couple of billboards showing the history the Japanese-Canadian Interment Camps and how Hwy 3 was built

Stop 2
Hope Slide
At the top of the hill, for today and not far from today’s destination is the Hope Slide turn out. It was a short stop to understand the impact of the event.
On January 9. 1965, an enormous landslide occurred. About 46,000,000 m³ of dirt and rock slid off the mountain and blocked the Nicolum Valley. As a result Hwy 3 was covered in 70 m of dirt.

Then it was off to our destination for the night — Sunshine Valley. This place was an amazing deal. $10 plus the requisite taxes for all of us. Included was the swimming pools and hot tubs (great for soaking those aching legs.
We were also joined by Karen and Nakuru for the night. She even brought a large pot of stew! Even with high winds through the campground, we all slept well.
