On today’s ride:
- Greg Kosar
- Ernie MacDonald
Both left me to make a dash for Calgary. Greg needed to catch a flight to Vancouver to attend Natalie’s graduation. His ride with me has come to an end. Ernie also left for Calgary to help Greg. He will rejoin me later.
For a while, I will be on my own for a while – that’s okay. Originally, this was supposed to be a solo trip from Vancouver to Winnipeg. Frankly, the way the weather has turned out, I am glad that I had company for the first 1,000 km of the ride.
Slow and Comfortable
A great breakfast at Sudden Sally across from the hotel in Banff, we met up with Bob and Evelyn who were heading home to Lake Country. Greg took the opportunity to lighten his load and transferred a bunch of stuff to Bob’s car. Then we were off.
I wasn’t interested in making the trip to Canmore go any faster than necessary and with over 100 km to go, Greg and Ernie took off quickly and I doddled my way down the Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail.
Running parallel to the Trans Canada Highway, the Legacy Trail is a beautiful multi-use path that joins Banff and Canmore. Lots of stunning vistas of the mountains and places to stop. I took advantage of all of this.
Tonight I will be trying warmshowers.org for the first time in Canada. Warm Showers is a global hospitality network for bicycle tourists. It connects touring cyclists with hosts who are willing to offer free accommodation, a place to camp, a shower, local advice, or simply a chance to share stories with fellow riders. Tonight I will be the guest of Suzanne Perkins.
