This was a recovery day and a wonderful opportunity for me to play catchup on my sitreps. I hope that you have had a chance to read a few.
Today I was joined by:
- Greg Kosar
- Ernie McDonald
The Rotary Club of Golden were very welcoming to us and set us up in the Travelodge in town. A really clean, comfortable and up-to-date hotel. We all took advantage of the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. Relaxation.
However, this wasn’t just a sit on my hands day. I had sitreps to catch up on. There I was sitting in the hotel room hammering away at the computer. For those of you who may be following my ride via Strava, there is not ride for Day 16.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #122
The Rotary Club and the Legion got together to put on an event at the Legion Branch. On face value, it was the Legion’s regular meat draw evening, but they opened their doors to members of the Rotary Club and to The Road To Valour.
This gave me an opportunity to present my video and to talk to group about the need for support for our veterans and first responders with mental disorders and their families. However, the video system was not cooperating and it took some real playing around to get it to work. Most of that effort was by Betty. Saved the day!
There was also a very good visiting piper who played some wonderful music of us. This was a very special treat. I loved it.

And then there were the raffles. The 50/50 draw worth $94.50 was won by Wendy Wilson. She graciously donated her winnings to the ride. Then, Sandy Wightman, my friend from the Rotary Club of Lake Country, donated one of his famous bird houses for a raffle. Betty was totally enamoured with the bird house — rumour says that half of the tickets in the jar were hers. I pulled the winning ticket and I am very happy to say that I pulled Betty’s. She was doing the happy dance. Given all of the hard work that she did to get the video system working, I was so happy that she won.
