On today’s ride I was joined by:

And a climb it was. From the start we were going up and above the snow line. This is where we finally started riding through snow sheds. Luckily, those sheds, while dark and gloomy, had wide shoulders for us. (No photos here – both hands on the handle bars.)

Bob promised that when he and Evelyn passed us they would wave. They did much better than that. As we emerged from one of the snow sheds, they were in a pullout, waiting for us with a box of TimBits. Yum! Energy when we needed it.

Along the way there was a lot of construction as the province continues to act upon the promise of 4-laning the Trans Canada Highway all the way to the Alberta border.

When we got to the Illecillewaet Campground, we discovered that the campground wasn’t yet open. There wasn’t much option, so we got past the barrier and rode in to explore, hoping to find a shelter that we could get out of the weather.

We got really lucky. We found a closed in shelter that someone had forgotten to close all of the windows. Ernie was a bit concerned that there may be surveillance cameras about and that the park police would be dispatched.

None of that, so we crawled in and made ourselves at home. Out of the wind, out of the rain, but still pretty cold. Thank you Parks Canada – you knew we were coming.
