Rules of Engagement

When I first dreamed up this fundraising adventure, I anticipated that I would be doing the ride totally on my own.  Then I started getting inquiries from friends who thought that they may want to join me for part of it.  So, after much thought and soul searching, I realized there would be benefits to having company. This is especially true on those long flat days of riding across the prairies.  I’m glad that you are thinking of joining me and others for a section of the ride.  Welcome aboard!

Pick a section of the route and join me for a couple of kilometres, a full day or even a couple of days. Just remember that there are some rules:

  • Helmets are mandatory.  If you ride with me, you wear a helmet. NO exceptions!
  • Safety. There is no traffic control. Please remember that when you are travelling on the King’s Highways, you must follow the rules of the road. On trails, the rules are much more relaxed. But be attentive and be safe.
  • When and where to ride. Check the route on this page and make your choice. Then let me know at TheRoadToValour@gmail.com. The final route plan will be issued in January 2026. However, please note that stuff happens and unplanned adjustments may be needed. As Team Captain, I will always look for comments and suggestions. The final decision in this and other similar situations is mine. If you are planning to join us for several days, plan to meet up the day before. Then pitch camp.
  • The ride is unsupported. You must supply everything that you need along the way. This includes water, food, and camping gear. Alternatively, bring a credit card for your hotel if you are riding several days with me.  You will also be responsible for finding a way back to your starting point.
  • Choice of Bike. Most of the route is on paved roads, some on unpaved roads and some on trails. Bring a bike that is appropriate. E-bikes are okay.  But, please no throttles (I would get jealous).
  • Speed. I will be travelling fully loaded, so I won’t be fast. I expect an average speed of about 15 kph (allowing for stops).
  • Most importantly, this is a fundraiser. I am happy to have you along, but please kick in to support our veterans and first responders. I suggest a donation of about $2.00 per kilometre (more for short rides, less for longer rides). You have a choice of how to make the contribution:
    • Cash. I will accept cash and deposit it when I can, but you will not receive a tax receipt;
    • Online. Make your donation online at DONATE and receive a tax receipt; or
    • Join the Team and Raise Money Yourself. Set a goal for your ride and encourage your family, friends and colleagues to help you achieve your goal. If you want to join the team, just send me an email. I will send you a link and password to join up.
