250 Days to The Road To Valour!

The countdown is on. In just 250 days, The Road To Valour begins—a 2,500-kilometre cycling journey from Vancouver to Winnipeg that honours the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of our veterans and first responders while raising vital funds for Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC).

The Road To Valour isn’t just about the distance! It’s about remembrance, healing and developing awareness around the invisible wounds of service – PTSD, operational stress injuries and the ongoing struggles that many veterans and first responders and their families carry long after the uniform is hung up for the last time.

Why Vancouver to Winnipeg?

The journey is both a reflection of the long road many must travel on their own path to recovery, but also a journey to remember and honour what our Canadian military has achieved in peace and conflict across the globe.

The Seaforth Highlander’s armoury in Vancouver, my starting point, was the home armoury of Smoky Smith, the last Canadian living with the Victoria Cross (VC). The ride ends on a street in Winnipeg, Valour Road, that is unique in the world.  Valour Road, formerly called Pine Street, was home to three winners of the Victoria Cross.

The journey represents both the physical challenges of endurance and the emotional challenges of living with the lasting impact of trauma. Along the way, I will be sharing stories, meeting communities, and highlighting the resources that make a difference.

250 Days Out—Where We Stand

At this stage of the countdown, planning is in full swing:

  • The route is being finalized, ensuring the ride connects meaningful landmarks and communities across Canada.
  • Training is ongoing – building the stamina, strength, and resilience needed to complete each leg of the ride.
  • Sponsors and partners are stepping forward, helping make the ride possible and amplifying its impact.
  • Awareness is growing, with supporters sharing the mission and connecting the ride to a wider network of veterans, first responders, and families.
The Route Ahead

250 days may seem like a long way off, but every day between now and then counts. Each training session, each kilometre logged, and each conversation about mental health brings us closer to making this ride something that matters beyond the saddle.

More Than a Ride

The Road to Valour is not about one person, or even a small group, cycling across Canada—it is about the thousands of Canadians whose service has left scars both seen and unseen. It’s about the families who live with the effects of trauma every day. And it’s about making sure no one has to walk that road alone.

As the clock ticks down, my anticipation grows. This journey will be demanding—physically, mentally, and emotionally. But that’s the point. The ride mirrors the struggle of recovery: long, difficult, and full of moments where giving up might feel easier. Yet with perseverance, support, and belief in the mission, every kilometre can be conquered.

What‘s Coming in the next 250 Days

Over the next 250 days I will be discussing various issues about Canadian military history and the Victoria Cross and its significance to the ride and to Canadian history. I will highlight the various VC winners along the route. I will also highlight many of the  Canadians whose bravery in the face of the enemy has not been recognized.

250 days to go! The wheels are turning, the countdown is on, and the road ahead is filled with purpose. Join me: Together we can make a difference in the lives of those who served and support those still fighting battles within.
